Capcom, already confirmed as a third-party publishing partner for Nintendo Switch, announced Ultra Street Fighter 2: The Final Challengers for the console/handheld combo.
Ultra Street Fighter 2 brings two new characters and game modes to the table. Evil Ryu and Violent Ken, corrupt versions of the franchise’s most iconic characters, are the titular final challengers.
“This version of Ryu has succumbed to the Satsui no Hado and is now obsessed with fighting in order to prove he is the strongest,” per Capcom’s website. “His former honorable self has been purged, allowing him to enjoy absolute power and embrace an unquenchable bloodthirst for battle.”
Meanwhile, Violent Ken “is the result of M. Bison kidnapping and brainwashing Ken, enhancing his abilities with Psycho Power and twisting his brotherly rivalry with Ryu into hatred. Violent Ken is more ruthless, aggressive, and fearless with moves that feature purple flames instead of his signature fire.”
You’ll be able to play Ultra Street Fighter 2 using the Joy-Con or Pro Controller, or by splitting up the Joy-Con into two parts and passing one half to a friend. The new two-on-one battle lets two players team up against a single AI-controlled opponent to administer decisive beatdowns.
In celebration of SF2’s stories history, Capcom has baked two visual styles into Ultra Street Fighter 2: classic pixelated graphics, and the smooth, HD models and backgrounds designed by UDON Entertainment for 2008’s Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix.
Capcom will announce pricing and a release date for Ultra Street Fighter 2 at a later date. The Switch console itself goes on sale on March 3 for $299.99.
